People also get tierd of the same old things that seem to go on at every con, so going to them become pointless (especialy if your not a teenage fanboi/girl); The market has almost become diluted with so much to the same it almost needs a few complete failures to wake people up and make them think twice about trotting out the same thing con after con.
Especialy with the economy nosediving and people not being able to afford to travel so much, fewer cons are going to happen.
Admittedly, with Chibi/J-CC, there is more of a range, but its still an anime con with small intrest groups tacked on. |
Let me rephrase, what i wanted to say was more japanese culture cons, as japanese animations fall under this category. alot of what you said is true, even though its quite unfortunate to see this happening.. I have been going to conventions and expos for some time now but still consider myself a "newbie" but have realised the japanese part of them always seem to be overpowered by the sci fi side. Its true con after con the same routine is present ...afew stalls to look at, same cosplay contests..being the highlight of each ...BUT even though its the same in that sense...the people that go to them differ from place to place, having the chance to meet new people at each.
Having small cons span all aver the country gives a chance for the people that find it difficult to travel to the larger more better publicized ones, to travel to ones closer to home. If smaller cons were better advertised and newer ideas thrown in to attract a greater number of people, these smaller cons wouldn't be dying out. There are alot of anime fans in the UK..and as you say many 'hyperactive teenage ones" ^_^ and having 3-4 mains ones every year doesnt do the J-culture justice. organisers need to throw in new ideas..even research why the ones in japan are so successful..that way..we can bring back the smaller ones near where we live. Anime in the uk is quite a large community and as said ..with better communication happening around the uk to advertise these smaller ones, im sure they would survive!_________________ For I am One HELL of a Butler!!! |

| In all honesty, it would seem that more and more people are becoming interested in Japanese culture as well as anime and manga, suggesting that JCC may continue or perhaps new conventions will appear over time. Some friends and I held a summer cosplay picnic event at our local park, and ended up bringing 30 people along, many of which were in costume, and that was just down to them being fans of anime/manga and cosplay. It doesn't really look like people are getting bore of 'just anime' conventions. If anything, people are becoming increasingly aware of them and willing to participate. There aren't enough cons in the UK, as a friend of mine from Japan was saying (she's now in our Sixth Form at school, and mentioned how she didn't expect to meet anyone interested in anime/manga, let alone conventions to 'celebrate' them). Hmm... fingers crossed my first JCC visit won't be my last. Same for a few of the people I know who are coming, too. |

| Sorry for the double post... After speaking to Will at JCC he has been convinced to run it again next year, the plan is the Music event will be the saturday and JCC will be the Sunday! (hopefully next year I'll be able to bring Senbonzakura with me I felt incomplete without it!) I hope Will is going to post somewhere to confirm this too! _________________ Reality is subjective and insanity is just a point of view "The Urahara Farmer only uses the finest Afro Cow"- Me @ Chibicon 2008, on the sunday...
